Towards the end of the 1960s, metal began to gain prominence in the world of furniture. Several modular shelving systems with round tubes existed but faced issues with connectors that were either unattractive or unstable. In 1967, Bernard FISCHLER asked Joe COLOMBO, with whom he had a strong friendship, to take on the challenge using a structure with 13mm diameter chrome tubes. Joe designed an aluminum die-cast connector that uniquely expels air from the tubes to ensure support and stability. The concept was approved! Structure made of pre-polished Ø13mm Asform-type steel tubes. Connectors in pressure-cast aluminum. Satin black epoxy lacquered or high-gloss Black Nickel finish. Shelves, sides, backs, and compartments made of 12mm thick medium-density fiberboard, veneered with American walnut and varnished.
