Vers la fin des années 60, le métal entre en force dans l'univers de l'ameublement. Plusieurs systèmes d'étagères modulaires en tube rond existent mais se heurtent à des connecteurs qui étaient soit inesthétiques, soit instables. En 1967, Bernard FISCHLER demande à Joe COLOMBO avec lequel il entretient une solide amitié, de relever le défi à partir d'une structure en tube chromé de Ø13mm. Joe conçoit un connecteur en fonte d'aluminium qui a pour particularité de chasser l'air des tubes et assurer maintien et stabilité. Le concept est validé ! Les bibliothèques système 037 seront distribuées jusqu'en 1974. ...
