W. 225 x H. 73 x D. 115 cm
Designed by Christophe Delcourt
Composed of a table, a sideboard, and a seating arrangement, Palatine is the designer's tribute to Italy, which inspires him: to its history and way of life, to its classical or contemporary architecture, and to all the details that make light cling to a column, a hollow, a projection, as on the facade of a building.
In this spirit, Christophe Delcourt aimed to explore for his furniture the possible interactions between two emblematic materials of Roche Bobois' history, wood and stone. Here, walnut and unfilled travertine, the former bringing its warm grain, the latter the beauty of its imperfection. Both are sourced locally since the workshop is in Urbino, at the heart of the peninsula.
The table was conceived as a piece of architecture: the top rests on two columns, two half-cylinders of Roman travertine that correspond to each other. The two solid walnut crossbars that join them seem to have been carved out by time and from the ground, but it is indeed the craftsman's hand that shaped these subtle curves.
