PULP COLLECTION, DESIGNED BY EUGENI QUITLLET

This is the first collaboration between Catalan designer Eugeni Quitllet and Roche Bobois. He has designed a line of tables, chairs and armchairs with a biomorphic aesthetic that eschews straight lines, complemented with refined finishes. Inspired by the living world, the collection draws on the dissociation of elements (or, as Eugeni puts it, molecules) to showcase them in the style of various organs making up a body. Fleshy and malleable, each table leg appears to be alive, extending its tentacle to the centre of the table top, thereby creating a space between the two ; the top is also designed as a large, horizontal cell that has been sliced open to show its inner make-up.

In terms of materials, Eugeni wanted to tell two versions of the same story :

- The first is glossy and lacquered ; it is a compehensive expression of the malleability of shapes in movement.

- The second is made ash wood : solid wood for the legs, and with a flamed veneer for the top. It tells the passages of time, which has polished and smoothed edges.

The chairs are also a nod to cellular division, with a seat and back that seem split and separate…the idea of movement is central. The sleek, Scandanvian-style leg is detached from the seat echoing the design of the table. The relaxing armchair has the same style, but a different design : the seat merges with the body, but the headrest plays into the quirky twinning concept.

Eugeni Quitllet graduated from the Barcelona art school “La Llotja”. His creative vocabulary goes beyond the simple function/style relationship to discover objects still unknown at their time. Between drawing, sculpture and contemporary archeology, Quitllet literally reveals silhouettes hidden in the material, skeletons of plastic objects whose elegance plays on the juxtaposition of fullness and emptiness, often imbued with a touch of humor.
