A-Jar is a reference to childhood nostalgia and fear of the dark. This floor lamp was designed to represent the warm glow of light enveloping the frame of a door at night. In English, when a door is 'a-jar,' it means it is slightly open. This playful use of light amplification, mimicking the movement of a door, is reflected in the rotating function of the lamp's inner frame, while the outer frame remains stationary.
This luminaire was conceived by South African designer Gary Wium, winner of the 8th Roche Bobois Design Award held in Johannesburg, South Africa, on the theme 'New sources of light, new resources for lighting.
